About Abound

We’re redefining consumer lending in the UK, and beyond. Using advanced AI and Open Banking data, we make fair, affordable personal finance available to more people. While traditional lenders rely almost entirely on credit scores, we look at the full financial picture - how much you spend, and what you can afford to repay to build a deeper, more accurate understanding of each customer's unique financial situation.

And we've shown it works at scale. We’ve issued over £1.3bn in loans directly to customers while delivering market-leading credit performance - for every 10 defaults the industry expects, we see only 3. We also reached profitability just 2.5 years after launch.

Backed by £2bn+ of funding from top-tier investors including Citi, GSR Ventures, and Deutsche Bank, we’re recognised as one of Europe’s fastest-growing fintechs (Sifted, CNBC). Now, we’re expanding into new markets and product lines - and we’re looking for ambitious people who want to learn fast, take ownership, and grow with us.

About the Role

As a DevOps Engineer within the Platform team, you will play a critical role in accelerating and securing the delivery of our Unsecured Personal Loans (UPL) products. Acting as an embedded expert, you will bridge the gap between our core Platform capabilities and the UPL product engineering team. You will take ownership of the infrastructure, deployment pipelines, and automation tools that power this critical business domain. This is an Individual Contributor (IC) role with high impact and autonomy.

In your first 6–12 months, your primary focus will be to standardize and optimize the UPL team's infrastructure using AWS CDK and Terraform. You will work closely with UPL engineers to identify bottlenecks in their deployment lifecycle, redesigning CI/CD pipelines to improve release velocity and reliability. By servicing their day-to-day infrastructure needs, implementing cloud best practices, and driving automation, you will establish yourself as a trusted partner who enables the product team to ship features securely and efficiently.

Technology Stack:

  • Cloud & Compute: AWS, ECS Fargate, Kubernetes, Lambda

  • Infrastructure as Code (IaC) & Languages: AWS CDK, Terraform, Python, Bash

  • CI/CD & Version Control: GitLab CI

  • Observability & Tooling: Amazon Managed Prometheus (AMP), incident.io , New Relic

  • Database: Aurora Postgres, MySQL

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Act as the dedicated DevOps and infrastructure partner embedded directly within the Unsecured Personal Loans (UPL) engineering team.

  • Design, build, and maintain scalable infrastructure using AWS CDK and Terraform.

  • Service the day-to-day infrastructure and deployment needs of the UPL engineers to remove technical bottlenecks.

  • Architect and optimize GitLab CI/CD pipelines to ensure fast, automated, and secure software delivery.

  • Implement and enforce AWS best practices around security, IAM, networking, and high availability for financial products.

  • Collaborate with the wider Platform team to ensure UPL systems align with company-wide architectural and governance standards.

Who You Are

  • Strong engineering foundation with deep, hands-on expertise in Infrastructure as Code, specifically AWS CDK and Terraform.

  • Proven experience building and maintaining modern cloud architectures on AWS (e.g., ECS Fargate, Lambda, networking, IAM).

  • Highly proficient in designing robust, automated CI/CD pipelines (experience with GitLab CI is a strong plus).

  • Experience embedding with product engineering teams or acting in an enablement role, with a strong customer-service mindset for internal developers.

  • Solid understanding of security and compliance requirements within cloud environments, ideally within financial services or transactional systems.

  • Comfortable owning infrastructure end-to-end and advocating for DevOps culture and automation best practices.

How we work and what We Value *

  • MVP Mindset: You prioritize speed and learning, accepting and managing technical debt when appropriate.

  • Collaboration: You go beyond your role and avoid siloed thinking.

  • Adaptability: You thrive in a fast-moving environment with shifting priorities.

  • Pragmatism: You value sound judgment and lightweight processes over rigid bureaucracy.
