Electronics Technician

Basic Requirements: Specialized Experience (for positions at GS-4 or equivalent and above): Work as a technician, instructor, inspector, or mechanic (civilian or military) that showed progression in theoretical and practical knowledge of electronic theory, and of the characteristics, function, operation, and capabilities of a variety of types of electronic equipment. This experience must have included the use of schematic diagrams, a variety of test equipment, and the application of appropriate electronic formulas involved in such duties as testing, troubleshooting, modifying, designing, calibrating, installing, maintaining, repairing, constructing, developing, and instructing on electronic equipment, or similar functions. Or Education and Training- Technical Work Involves: developing and designing test and repair equipment, analyzing repair practices, or developing procedural instructions on methods and steps of equipment repairs; developing maintenance standards and procedures, testing and evaluating new or modified systems, or analyzing the compatibility of interlocking components and systems; planning and directing the installation of complex systems and associated facilities, particularly where there are problems of site selection and construction; designing and analyzing circuits, determining feasibility of these designs, evaluating equipment performance under varying environmental conditions, collecting data, or designing or modifying designs to achieve performance and cost objectives; and developing or evaluating new or modified systems or monitoring frequency emissions by licensed stations. Specialized experience is defined as: 1) performing work involving the construction of electrical, electronic, HVAC, or control systems, or the verification of quality on such construction projects; AND 2) preparing technical reports identifying and elaborating on any deficiencies, failures and recurring systems or equipment malfunctions. You may qualify at the GS-09 level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirement: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-08 in the Federal Service (experience may have been gained in the private sector) which has given me the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties related to the position being filled. Specialized experience is defined as: 1) performing work involving the construction of electrical, electronic, HVAC, or control systems, or the verification of quality on such construction projects, AND 2) reading and interpreting technical documentation, drawings, and schematics. This position is located in the Washington Headquarter Services (WHS), Facilities Services Directorate (FSD), designed to save energy, improve occupant comfort in the workplace, and provide a cleaner environment through air pollution reduction. The incumbent is responsible for building automation and industrial controls components, systems, and networks required to provide monitoring and control of the utilities and systems within buildings on the Pentagon Campus and at the Mark Center.

Incumbents typical work assignments may include the following: Act as a technical consultant for Energy Management Systems (EMS). This includes providing technical support for new or expanded systems, reviewing designs for hardware and software compliance, evaluating HVAC system data, and performing quality assurance and code compliance checks on field installations. Perform research, development, and planning for the expansion of Energy Management Systems (EMS) in the Pentagon. This involves reviewing and modifying designs from contractors, developing graphical representations for new equipment, and collecting technical data to develop project documentation. Provide remote and on-site analysis of complex DDC controls to resolve system issues. This includes coordinating central monitoring and alarm handling, analyzing trend data to fix deficiencies, providing guidance to junior technicians, and modifying/upgrading software applications. Serve as a COR for monitoring and evaluating contractor performance on Pentagon FRCS upgrades, energy conservation, and SCADA projects. This duty involves conducting inspections, reviewing reports, authorizing payments, and providing technical advice to the contracting officer.
