Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Basic Requirement for Geographer: A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in geography; or related physical or social science such as geology, meteorology, economics, statistics, sociology, anthropology, political science, history, cartography, computer science, urban studies, or planning that included at least 24 semester hours in geography or related fields. OR B. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major in geography, or a related field that included at least 24 semester hours in geography or related fields, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) utilizing Geographic Information Systems independently to carry out assigned work; 2) performing system design and integration activities that may include identifying and maintaining hardware and software components; 3) designing the production of standard and custom map products. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).

About the Position: Work within the Integrated Training Area Management Division. Serves as the Functional Subject Matter Expert relating to Geospatial Information Systems (GIS), specializing in GIS analysis and Remote Sensing applications for the Sustainable Range program (SRP).

Independently plans, coordinates, and performs complex analytical assignments using Geospatial Information Systems (GIS) to directly impact planning and decision-making at program, directorate, and installation levels.

Oversees GIS data production and analysis, provides technical expertise to other geographers, and is responsible for the factual accuracy of results, research, and interpretations.

Implement a quality assurance program for data layers.

Performs sophisticated geometric operations and apply innovative spatial principles using ArcGIS software to solve complex user problems, including line of sight, surface danger zone, and watershed analysis.

Provides comprehensive SRP GIS support to implement standards, data development, creating GIS applications, and geospatial analysis for various systems like the Range Managers Tool Kit (RMTK) and Range Facility Management Support Systems (RFMSS).

Establishes long and short-term goals for the SRP program, determines resource requirements, manages budgets, and communicates program risks and mitigation strategies to leadership.

Performs system design and integration, troubleshoots software, and creates and maintains range and ITAM databases, data structures, and geospatial data features.

Develops customized web maps and dashboards in the Army Installation Geospatial Portal (AIGP).

Designs and oversee the production of standard and custom map products.

Updates the SRP Military Installation Map (MIM) and ensures all maps meet standard military cartographic layouts.

Maintains liaison with federal, state, and local agencies to coordinate requirements and represents the organization's geospatial interests at meetings.

Develops and presents training on GIS systems and processes to users and stakeholders.
