Transcripts must be submitted with your application package. You MUST meet the following requirements: To qualify for the 1372 series: EDUCATION: A. Degree: geodesy; or 30 semester hours in any combination of geodesy, mathematics, physics, astronomy, engineering science, surveying, geodetic surveying, photogrammetry, or geophysics. The course work must have included differential and integral calculus. OR B. Combination of education and experience -- course work as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. AND SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and responsibility to the next lower grade level in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular competencies/knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. This experience need not have been in the federal government. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations e.g., professional; philanthropic, religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Specialized experience MUST include all of the following: Participating in programs or projects to develop techniques or algorithms to improve geodetic positioning techniques such as Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS); Implementing research results into computer software and presenting research results at scientific conferences or in peer-reviewed scientific media; Participating in the development or implementation of project management functions, such as task scheduling and developing performance metrics; and Modifying new or existing computer programs for scientific, engineering, or database applications for geodetic data.

This position is located in the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), National Ocean Service (NOS), National Geodetic Survey (NGS), with one vacancy in Silver Spring, MD; Corbin, VA; Chesapeake, VA; Boulder, CO; or Seattle, WA. The geometric geodesy activities include the research and development of multi-GNSS baseline processing software, determination of precise GPS satellite orbits and the extension of the capability to determine multi-GNSS orbits, modeling of the trajectories of the CORS for use as primary geodetic control, and the maintenance of terrestrial reference frames. Additional activities include the development of map projections, computation and stewardship of geodetic coordinate transformations, and the development and support of online GNSS processing software known as the Online Positioning User Service (OPUS). Support the development of software to process geodetic data, such as from GNSS, differential leveling, and classical techniques. Ensure an optimal web presence and contribute to the development of geodetic surveying manuals and standards. Once new tools are developed, ensure implementation and manage the maintenance of these tools. Plan, organize and manage all technical, scientific and administrative functions for the branch, to include direction in guidelines, decisions, methodology, interpretation and evaluation processes caused by changes in program, technological development, unknown phenomena, or conflicting requirements.
